Week 6 - Feb 2008
Some tragic news has fallen upon us. Shakeel had a nasty fall on-site and has been hospitalised. Once fit, he will be flown back to the UK for re-hab and extensive physiotherapy for spinal injuries. Work continues albeit at a much slower pace.
Shakeel wish you all the best in your recovery, and to the girls although a little slower, your house will be finished one day, look at me, have been bussy for 4 years, and still no finished :-)
Our sandbag house faces the Indian Ocean in the heart of the Garden Route, located conveniently between George and Knysna. Kleinkranz is a small village, popular with local fishermen and for paragliding.
The house comfortably sleeps 6 people (2 double and one twin room). There are 3 attached bathrooms, a very spacious and well equipped kitchen with an island, an indoor braai (bbq) and a living room that overlooks the sea.
The closest beach is 2 minutes from the house, ideal for walking, fishing and running. Whales and dolphins can be viewed from the house, especially between June and December
Cape Footprints is available for holiday lettings. Email Dolar Vasani at dvasani60@gmail.com for more information on availability and rates.
An overview of the Garden Route
The Garden Route stretches over 200kms from Mossel Bay to Storms River. The name comes from the fynbos (fine bush) shrubbery near the coast. It enjoys a maritime climate, with moderately hot summers, and mild to chilly winters.
Sandwiched between the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains and the Indian Ocean, the area offers ample hiking opportunities. Nearly 300 species of birdlife are to be found and there are 10 nature reserves. The various bays along the Garden Route are nurseries to the endangered Southern Right Whale which come from the Antarctic to calve from July to December.
Although very convenient to explore by car, it is also the site of Africa's last remaining passenger steam train, the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe. The area has unique food and craft markets, very good restaurants and is home to over 15 golf courses including the prestigious Pinnacle Point, Fancourt, Pezula and George.
